Fun at the farm

It was such a gloriously sunny day today, I really wished I didn't have to work. Lucky for me, my sister took the boys to the park for a few hours, and they had a blast!

When I got home, they were both sleepy and fed, which was a bonus for me. Isaac went down for a nap, which gave me time to zip around the house like a super hero mom, and clean with the speed of a cheetah, while Ian played outside.

As soon as Isaac was up, we were out the door! At one of the local farms, there have been allot of new babies arriving. I thought it would be really great to be able to visit them while they're so small, since we're there so often. We will be able to watch them grow up!

We saw four baby lambs, one of them was even born just hours before we got there! There were two litters of piglets, one was barely a week old, and each piglet was smaller than my foot! The other litter's piglets were a little bit bigger, but not by too much. There were two separate bunches of chicks. Both were equally adorable!

We tried to see the baby cows, but they were very far out in the pasture, and although the farmer told us we were welcome to go out there with them, I decided that I was more comfortable at a safe distance.

I'm hoping to have some professional shots of the boys together this week, and I think the farm would be a perfect spot for them!

Hello green thumb

Until a few months ago, I hadn't ever planted anything. Well not successfully anyway. My mother gave me a little Calla Lilly kit, and it seemed easy enough, so I gave it a shot.

That lilly is now two feet tall! Basking in my achievement, I decided to use another little kit that we had to plant some trees. Those Norway Spruce trees have indeed sprouted to a respectable inch tall!

Feeling that I am really on a roll, I've now gone on to starting seedlings for an entire veggie garden, along with a new flower garden in our yard. I'm planning on seeding the yard for grass as well.

I guess I figure strike while I'm hot, right? Right!

Spring, I think

We enjoyed a brief glimpse at spring a few days ago, and then as fast as it came, it was gone again! Apparently, old man winter is one very grouchy old man. He doesn't seem to want spring to arrive.

I have decided that I want to see how green my thumbs are. I've mapped out a spot for a veggie garden in our backyard, and I've already started weeding out the small flower beds we have, and I'm ready to dive in with more planting. I've been up to my eyeballs in reading all about it, so I am pretty confident. I will be planting lavender and clover for luck, just in case : )

I was feeling so inspired when I saw some little green flower tops popping up, and then BAMMO! Today we got more snow. Booooooo

Eighteen Months Old

Isaac had his eighteen month doctor visit the other day. He is now weighing in at 26 pounds, and he's sprouted up to a whopping 32 inches tall! I still can't believe that he's a year and a half already!

I'm very happy that he is all caught up with the vaccinations he needs, it made the visit more fun for everyone. He impressed his pediatrician with all the words he's saying, and all the body parts he knew.

I wish I had a picture of him from this visit, but alas I do not.

He ended up having to have a lead test, which was supposed to be just a finger prick, and turned into a tear jerking, heart wrenching ordeal!

Introducing Alexander the Great

Over the summer, Isaac and I, along with a friend of mine, and her son, went to visit the local animal shelter. It was a rainy afternoon, and we thought it would be a fun place to visit. We met a cat on that day who appeared to be winking at us, which I thought was cute. I had no idea that he had something seriously wrong with it.

As it turns out, he had something wrong, and infection I think, in his inner eyelid. It was causing him allot of pain, and the vetinary clinic which is next door to the shelter fixed it. He is now doing fantastic!

Isaac and I have gone back to that shelter many times since then, and every time, there is this same cat. I had told Michael about him, and told him that I really wanted to adopt him, but we agreed that we probably shouldn't.

We went back for another visit last week, and there was the cat, lounging on this cat climber. He looked like the king of the lion pride! Isaac went right up to him and kissed him on the head. A little bit later, the enormous, king lion sauntered off the climber and came to investigate us a little bit.

Isaac is used to being a little rough around the edges with our Fluffen at home, so I was a little more aware of how close he was getting to these cats. As this giant one walked slowly past, he swished his tail twards Isaac's face. Isaac swatted it away, and the cat immediately brought his paw up, as if to swat at Isaac.

I put my hand on Isaac's chest, and told him to take a step back and give the kitty a little space. So he did. But the cat just sat there, paw in the air. We waited, and then Isaac went back to the cat and gave him a high 5! Hahaha, I almost fell over.

The cat put his paw down, and rubbed figure eights through and around Isaac's legs, practically knocking him down in the process.

Well, that was it, I knew we had to have him! It took a little bit of convincing, but Michael finally said we could add him to our family! He was already named Alexander the Great, and it really suits him well!

They told us when we adopted him, that he would pick his human. If he didn't like us, we would know right away. As it turns out, within a half hour after coming home, it was decided that Isaac was in fact his human. He doesn't let that boy out of his sight. They nap together, play together, eat together. If and when Isaac cries, watch out, Alexander will plow you down to get to him. Once he's seen for himself that everything is okay, then and only then can you investigate for yourself.

Gearing up for springtime!

We have been trying to take advantage of the slightly longer, ever so slightly warmer days. Which means, extra long walks, many more trips to the playground, lots of playtime outside. We can't get out the door without being prepared to feed every bird in the neighborhood.

Isaac has gotten very particular about where he sprinkles the seeds. It's not in the traditional places that you may think, the bird feeder is where I start, but not him. He sprinkles them along the driveway, in certain shrubs, on the front steps, in a planter in the front yard, on the bottom branches of one of the trees on our front steps, and so on. Don't bother trying to steer him away either, he knows exactly where he wants to puts them, and he's very consistent and very determined to get his daily chore completed in his own way.

That's totally fine with me, as long as the birds get fed!

New Fish x 5

Somehow, our luck with pet fish ran out. We lost an entire tank full in a week. Lucky for me, Isaac didn't even notice!

We have refilled the tank with five goldfish this time. They're much easier to take care off, although they seem to make the tank more messy. I'm very thankful that we have those sucker fish in there to clean up after them!

We didn't bother naming these guys, or gals, I'm not quite sure who we have in there!
